| Firmware is code which is stored in a CD or DVD burner (e.g. program data or saved data). The burning method for different types of storage media is determined based on this data. When a new medium is developed, under certain circumstances, it is necessary to update the firmware, in order to write the medium with optimum performance. Normally, the firmware must be updated when you come across previously unencountered problems, since enhancements of the products are made. These can be enhancements to the operating systems or from CD-R/RW media. The following problems may possibly be solved by updating the firmware: • Improved recognition and compatibility between different CD-R/RW manufacturers and types • Improved reading of scratched and damaged CD storage media • Damage to the current firmware due to power loss, power surge, electricity disruption and/or computer malfunctions • A sudden or reoccurring error that impedes the ordinary access to and usage of the drive • Errors occurring by insertion and removal of discs • Non-recognition of just-burned CD-Rs/RWs • Reduction in burning or rewriting capabilities Ask the drive manufacturer for the most up-to-date firmware update for your drive. | |
